Privacy policy

Horse Race (horserace.report) is a read-only, nonpartisan data site. It has no accounts, no advertising and no tracking cookies; the only analytics are cookieless, aggregate visit counts. This page explains the small amount of information that is handled when you visit or write to us.
What we collect
- Nothing to browse. Reading the site doesn't require any personal information.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) records standard request information, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use IP addresses briefly, in memory, to rate-limit automated requests; we don't build profiles from them.
- Visit counts. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are read, along with the referring site, rough location (country) and device type. It sets no cookies and doesn't follow you across sites: visits are counted with an anonymous identifier derived from the request that changes daily, so they can't be tied to you or linked from one day to the next.
- Your theme choice. If you switch between light and dark mode, that preference is saved in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- Contact form. If you write to us, we receive your name, email address, topic and message. They're used only to read and reply to you.
Services that process data for us
- Vercel hosts the site, serves its pages and provides the cookieless visit counts described above.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks contact-form submissions for spam. It runs only on the contact page and may collect device and browser signals for that purpose, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- SMTP2GO delivers contact-form messages to our inbox by email.
We don't sell, rent or share personal information with anyone else, and we don't use it for marketing.
Public records on this site
Some pages show the names of political donors and candidates, taken from public filings with the Federal Election Commission. That information is public by law. We don't publish donors' addresses or other contact details. If you believe a record is wrong, the original filing is linked from the page, and you can contact us about how it's presented here.
How long we keep it
Contact messages are kept in our email for as long as needed to respond and then deleted on request. Hosting logs are kept by our providers under their own retention policies.
Your choices
You can ask us to see or delete anything you sent through the contact form. Clearing your browser's site data removes the saved theme choice.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their information.
Changes and contact
